Placement & Installation Guide

Where to Mount

Carbon monoxide is approximately the same weight as air and distributes evenly throughout an enclosed space. Mount this alarm at breathing zone height — between 4 and 6 feet above the cabin sole (floor) — in each sleeping area and in the main cabin.

• Sleeping quarters / berths: Install one unit per enclosed sleeping area where occupants could be overcome while asleep.
• Main cabin / saloon: Mount in a location visible and audible to all occupants.
• Proximity to sources: Install near (but not directly above) known CO sources such as gasoline generators, propane heaters, and marine heads with holding tanks. Keep the unit at least 12 inches from any direct exhaust vent, cooking appliance, or area of high grease vapour.
• Engine compartments: This unit is not designed for direct engine-compartment installation. Place it in the adjacent accommodation space where crew spend time.

Clearance & Ventilation

• Do not mount inside lockers, behind curtains, or in any location that restricts air circulation to the sensor.
• Maintain a minimum 6-inch clearance from corners where two walls meet — dead-air pockets can delay detection.
• Avoid mounting directly above air-conditioning vents, fans, or hatches; rapid airflow can dilute CO before the sensor responds.
• Keep at least 12 inches from fuel-burning appliances to prevent nuisance activations from normal combustion products during brief start-up.

Wiring Requirements

• Connect to a dedicated, fused 12 V DC circuit — do not wire in series with other devices.
• Use the appropriate wire gauge for the run length; consult ABYC E-11 for marine-grade wiring standards.
• Terminate all connections with marine-rated, tinned-copper crimp connectors to resist corrosion.
• The 62-541-R-Marine and 62-542-R-Marine variants include a normally closed relay that can activate exhaust fans, remote horns, lights, or signals — wire the relay output per the accessory manufacturer's specifications.
• After wiring, verify positive power-up: the unit will self-test and sound a brief chirp, then display a steady status indicator.

False-Alarm Prevention

• This alarm is engineered to reject false alarms from new-boat outgassing, non-hazardous hydrocarbon vapours, and typical marine odours — no special acclimation period is required.
• If the alarm activates, do not assume it is a false alarm. Ventilate the vessel immediately, evacuate if necessary, and use the Alarm Mute button only after the space is ventilated.
• Persistent alarms after ventilation indicate dangerous CO levels still present — vacate and contact emergency services.
• Clean the sensor face periodically with a dry cloth; do not spray cleaners, paint, or insecticides near the unit as these can contaminate the sensor.
• Replace the unit every 5 years from the manufacture date printed on the label, or sooner if the unit fails its self-test.

Compatibility

• Designed for 12 V DC marine electrical systems.
• Flush-mount installation — a mounting template is included. The unit fits standard marine panel cut-outs for the 62 Series.
• Compatible with boats using gasoline, diesel, or propane aboard; provides detection coverage regardless of fuel type.
